Brexit and the current trade war

The current trade war that has been launched by the USA against the rest of the world reminds of me Brexit. The latter process has been stressful and boring.1 The same can be said about the current trade war that is currently taking place. It is stressful because it is unpredictable. It is also boring because it is all about deals that might instantly benefit one country. Brexit has been less brutal than the current trade war but not less boring. People feel bored because political leaders do not seem to have a clear view of what their country should look like.

Being the most powerful, the greatest, or the wealthiest is not a matter of nature but of degree. One does not have explain what one wants to do with power nor wealth. One may realise it by noticing mechanical talks2 or reactions. President Obama's "Yes, we can" is not different from President Trump's "Make America great again" from this perspective. Some may argue that these two leaders favour very different political options. It seems to me that they do so because that expect very different people to support them. As soon as a political leader starts following his or her electoral target, he or she stops leading the country.

In brief, Brexit seems to be the new standard in international negotiations.
